Helical coil wire screw thread inserts are used to quickly and permanently restore tapped holes, which have been stripped or damaged due to wear corrosion or over torquing.
The inserts are precision formed coils of extremely hard diamond shaped wire. When installed into a STI (Special Thread Insert) tapped hole, they provide a permanent conventional internal screw threads and the assembled insert accommodates any standard bolt.
The inserts are larger in diameter before installation than the original tapped hole. Dur ng installation, the inserting tool applies torque to the tang / driving notch. reducing the diameter of the leading coil and permitting it to enter the STI tapped hole. After installation the insert expands outwards with a spring-like action thus anchoring the insert in the base metal.
